Jerome Robbins – director/choreographer

He met the legendary director/choreographer at a run through of choreographer Paul Taylor’s piece, “Minnikin Fair”, at Taylor’s studio, which used some of Wieselman’s music as part of the score. He shared an elevator down with Robbins who expressed an interest in the music. Robbins eventually got in touch with him about working as composer for his ongoing pursuit of his project about his father and his past, referred to as “The Poppa Piece”. He worked on this throughout late 1990 to 1991, but was only a workshop. It was a great learning experience, being in the room with Robbins as he danced his ideas as well as meetings at his home and the general development of the material.
